On Wednesday, January 20th at 12 p.m. EST, Joe Biden will take the oath of office and will be sworn in as President of the United States. Coverage of the inauguration will begin hours earlier and last for hours.

Biden's inauguration will look much different than inauguration's in the past. For instance, there won't be nearly as many people in attendance according to POLITICO.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, organizers have slashed attendance from 200,000 tickets for Congress members and guests down to just over 1,000 people — with one ticket for each member of Congress and one for them to bring a guest.

There won’t be the usual throngs of members of the public watching, either. Amid threats of violence, the Interior Department is closing the National Mall until after Biden's inauguration, although some First Amendment demonstrations allowed elsewhere in Washington, D.C. Biden’s inaugural committee has urged the public to not come to D.C. for the event.

The increase in security comes after the January 6th riots at the United States Capitol that left five people dead.

The typical inauguration parade won't happen this year. Instead it will be a virtual event. There will be the traditional "pass in review" with the military later in the day and this evening there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Tonight there will be an inauguration night show with celebrities.
