A half marathon and 5K will be run this weekend in honor of a local astronaut that lost his life in 2003.

West Texas Endurance will host the Willie McCool Memorial Half Marathon and 5K this Saturday.

The event will begin at the Silent Wings Museum on Saturday, April 6th beginning at 8 a.m.

“We are delighted to have this race named after our son,” said Audrey and Barry McCool, Willie McCool’s parents. “Long distance running helped forge the man that Willie McCool would become. Running at Coronado High School was key to his going to the Naval Academy.”
