Lock up your weapons, Lubbock! Leaving them in your vehicles is fine until it isn't. Next thing you know, you have a broken window and and your boom stick is missing: NOT the Friday night you were planning.

Locked, Loaded, and Stored Safely

Earlier this year, LPD sent a reminder to the city containing certain steps to avoid vehicle burglaries.

Lubbock police, along with other organizations like the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center, embarked on an operation in May of this year that led to 19 arrests, three stolen vehicles and two stolen guns returned, along with over 13 pounds of meth and a thousand fentanyl pills.

This happened in a span of two days... TWO DAYS.

Within the first five months of this year, there have been 312 vehicle burglaries across the Hub City. From these burglaries, 36 stolen guns were reported.

Vehicle Weapon Thefts Declining but Still a Problem

LPD Chief Seth Herman stated that, although the city respects citizen's Second Amendment rights, they still need to ensure that their weapons are secured properly.

To make things even more spicy, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has stated that there are some stolen weapons out there that are being modified to be even more deadly.

One example was a gun fitted with a "machine gun conversion device", a switch that, when pressed, would fire every round in the magazine automatically without the need to pull the trigger. How convenient and time-saving!

If you are going to leave your firearm in your vehicle for an extended period of time, just make sure it's out of sight, out of mind.

Glove compartment, under the seat, in the little partition between the driver's and passenger's seat where your wallet and keys always fall between: pick your poison.

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

Have you ever wondered what life inside a Texas prison is really like? I asked friends who are correction officers and folks who have volunteered at jails. I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.

Dangerous Texas Gangs And Their Rivals

The rise of gang culture in Texas has been a steady one

The more prevalent gangs are, the more likely the average citizen is to cross paths with affiliated members. As the population of Texas has increased in size and diversity, so have the gangs of the Lone Star state.

If you're not mixed up in organized crime shenanigans, then you're probably safe. But as the old adage goes, the more you know the better prepared you are.
