Varsity Bookstore has been a major part of Texas Tech and its students’ lives since 1934. They were the go-to place to get textbooks, TTU merch, graduation regalia, and more. But as of Tuesday, September 20th, 2022, Varsity has officially announced that the store will be closing.

The announcement was made on their social media platforms, stating that the store will close by the end of 2022.

Due to the closing, Varsity Bookstore will have some major sales to clear out its stock and are no longer offering certain services. According to their official website, they're no longer selling e-books, renting course material, or buying-back textbooks. The store will continue selling the rest of its stock with sale prices ranging from 10 percent off diploma frames to 40 percent off clothing, décor, art supplies and more.

Varsity Bookstore's hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday.

There's not an official closing date set, but there are only a few months left in the year. This means that you’ll want to take advantage of these sales as soon as possible before we say goodbye to a part of Lubbock’s history for good.

For all of my students out there that used Varsity as their go-to for textbooks, I highly suggest using the Texas Tech bookstore, newly named Raider Depot, located in the Student Union Building. You can also order books online through Amazon, find literature at Barnes & Noble, or check out local bookstores like 2nd Chance Books, Wild Lark Books, and 2nd & Charles.
