An area supermarket is partnering with another organization for a food drive to help feed kids during the weekends.

United Supermarkets is partnering with the Junior League of Lubbock to host the Junior League’s sixth annual Food 2 Kids Pop-Tarts Drive.

The Food 2 Kids program provides 1,500 sacks of food every Friday to children who may suffer from hunger during the weekend.

The drive kicked off on Wednesday, February 19th, and will run through March 5th.

“More than half of the elementary schools in Lubbock have at least 75 percent of students who qualify for free or reduced lunches, so these efforts are hugely important to our families and friends in Lubbock who are affected by hunger,” said Shelby Crews, community relations manager for United Supermarkets.

United shoppers can purchase boxes of toaster pastries at any location and donate them by placing them in the Food 2 Kids barrels at the front of each store. Guests can also add a cash donation to their grocery purchase during check out.

All sacks of food provided to children throughout Lubbock ISD contain items such as peanut butter, juice, toaster pastries, fruit snacks, pop-top cans of spaghetti, cereal, and more.
