On Tuesday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Eddie Owens of United Supermarkets spoke with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about United Supermarkets in Lubbock assuming the day-to-day logistical and operational responsibility of four stores in eastern New Mexico. United in Lubbock will begin providing support and supplies in September to stores in Clovis, Hobbs, Roswell and Carlsbad, which are currently being supplied from Phoenix, Arizona.

In addition to taking over the New Mexico locations, the United Family will be opening new locations in the near future. The first "from the ground-up" Amigos location will be opening soon in Hereford. The store will be located on US Highway 380, which will also include a United Express convenience store on site. Another new United Express convenience store location will be opening soon in Wichita Falls, as well as a United Supermarkets location in Brownwood.

Also, the United Family's annual school supplies drive, "Project SOS", continues through today (August 12, 2014). The project is a Lubbock ISD partnership with all school districts in Lubbock County, and provides an easy way for school children to get their required supplies in an efficient way. Customers shopping at United Supermarkets and wishing to donate to the effort may purchase the supplies and place them in containers in the store, or simply make a donation when they check out.

The "Aisles of Smiles" campaign continues as well, with portions of proceeds from the purchase of identified products going to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This campaign culminates on Labor Day weekend.

The 23rd Annual United Supermarkets Jacky Pierce Charity Classic Golf Tournament will take place on September 7th and 8th, with proceeds benefiting seventeen United Way organizations in the region. Last year about $250,000 was raised, and proceeds are expected to top that figure this year. For more information on the event, visit http://unitedtexasgolf.golfreg.com
