Trump Leads Biden in Texas, According to a New Poll

With 25 days to go until Election Day, some good news for President Donald Trump when it comes to the State of Texas.
A new Texas Tribune/University of Texas poll has President Trump leading former Vice President Joe Biden by 5 percentage points, 50 percent to 45 percent.
The poll of 1,200 registered voters was conducted September 25th through October 4th.
According to the poll's findings, President Trump himself is a major issue.
Daron Shaw, a professor at the University of Texas and co-director of the poll, told the Texas Tribune that the polling suggests this election will be a referendum on the president:
“What it really shows you is just how much of this is about Trump,” he said. “The race is a marker for attitudes towards Trump. It really is a referendum.”
The president himself is a decisive issue for voters who support Biden. While 55% said they’re voting for Biden because they want him to be president, 45% of the Democrat’s supporters said he’s their choice because they don’t want Trump to be president. Most of Trump’s voters — 81% — said they want him to be elected, while 19% said they’ll vote for Trump because they don’t want Biden to be president.
While the president was leading Biden by 5 percentage points in this poll, one other poll shows the President can still expand his lead. In the same Texas Tribune/University of Texas poll, Senator John Cornyn led his Democrat opponent, MJ Hegar, by 8 percentage points, 51-43 percent.
Early voting for the November 3rd election begins on Tuesday, October 13th in Texas.
