Famous Burger Restaurant in Lubbock Closes After Nearly 50 Years
After nearly 50 years in business, a popular Lubbock burger spot has closed its doors for good. And its closing came as surprise to customers who have spent decades going to the restaurant.
Tommy's Famous Burgers in Lubbock Closes After 47 Years
For 47 years, people in Lubbock have been going to Tommy's Famous Burgers on North University Avenue. Known for its giant burgers and other menu items, generations of people in Lubbock have been to Tommy's.
Tommy's was one of those burger joints that you'd go to and the buns and burger were greasy and cheese was always perfectly melted. It seems like only the local burger places can make that magic happen.

One employee took to Facebook to confirm the news that Tommy's had indeed closed. She had worked there for 27 years and Sunday was her final day. Tommy's famous marquee outside of the restaurant was the only public announcement made by ownership. Simply thanking Lubbock for 47 years. With another announcement, "Now RVING".
Why Did Tommy's Famous Burgers Close?
The good news? It doesn't appear as though Tommy's was a victim to the economy. According to a sign posted on the front door, the owners have retired and if the marquee is accurate, they are hitting the road and doing some traveling.

It's rare for a restaurant to last nearly 50 years and while the price to do business has increased recently, it appears as though the owners were ready to retire. We congratulate them on a long-successful run in Lubbock and wish them the best in their retirement.
