The body of a 4-year-old was recently recovered from Lake Corpus Christi after the toddler, along with four others, visited the south Texas body of water over the weekend.

The Tragic Drowning at Lake Corpus Christi

Over the weekend, on Sunday, a group of five visited Catfish Cove at Lake Corpus Christi State Park, My San Antonio reports. The group comprised of a two-year-old boy, a four-year-old boy, a 20-year-old woman, an 18-year-old, and a 29-year-old man.

Police received a call on Sunday about all five members in distress, struggling to stay afloat in the water. Rescue efforts were able to save three of them, but the 29-year-old man, Pedro Aguirre, and his 4-year-old son never resurfaced.

Search Efforts at Lake Corpus Christi

Search efforts were conducted during the remainder of the day before the setting sun required it to be temporarily called off. Organizations like the Texas Park and Wildlife Division Game Wardens and the San Patricio County Sherriff's Department resumed their search at 7 in the morning on Monday, despite high winds complicating their efforts.

Aguirre's body was found early Monday morning, but it wasn't until Tuesday that his 4-year-old son was found. It turns out that the child was pulled under the waves by the current when others attempted to rescue him.

In a Facebook post, San Patricio County Sherriff Oscar Rivera announced the heartbreaking ordeal.

Rivera continued to indicate that, although water levels at Texas lakes are very low right now, it's still crucial that visitors exercise extreme caution when swimming.
