Is it time to start masking up again in Lubbock? Cases of Flu, the cold, and RSV are on the increase in Lubbock and across the state of Texas so does that mean we would all be better off with masks on?

According to the CDC, the answer, sadly, is yes. According to CNBC, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe that if people started wearing masks again, we could see cases fall. Of course, once people took the masks off again we would probably be in the very same spot.

Of course many of us saw this coming with the push to have everyone mask up during COVID. Many of us believed it was just a matter of time before masking up was the answer to everything. The CDC Director told reporters that wearing a mask is just an everyday precaution now according to CNBC.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, in a call with reporters, said wearing a mask is one of several everyday precautions that people can take to reduce their chances of catching or spreading a respiratory virus during the busy holiday season.

“We also encourage you to wear a high-quality, well-fitting mask to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses,” said Walensky, adding that people living in areas with high levels of Covid transmission should especially consider masking.

Of course in the real world, we are done with masks and something like the flu isn't going to change anyone's mind. In the world before COVID, no one was thinking of wearing a mask because of the flu.

So on this, I think I'll politely pass on the CDC recommendation.
