Authoities say three West Texans have been charged with embezzlement in two seperate cases.

The U.S. Attorney's office announced Thursday that Herschel Breig and James Cheek were each indicted on charges related to the failure to pay more than $1.8 million in payroll taxes withheld from employees' paychecks as well as money withheld for health benefits while they ran Highland Medical Center. The indictment also alleges that the pair embezzled more than $135,000 from Shiloh Health Services, the company they controlled. The indictment returned Wednesday alleges that Breig and Cheek continued to withhold money from employees' paychecks after their health plans were cancelled.

A federal grand jury has also indicted a woman accused of stealing more than $237,000 from a non-profit center she used to run. Debra Brown has been charged with taking the money from the Children's Advocacy Center in San Angelo during a five-year period ending in 2010. The 51-year-old was indicted yesterday in Lubbock.
