The popularity of different names come and go over the years. Some hold strong for years on end, while others see a spike in popularity for just a short burst before dying down.

It can be nice to have a popular name because you will always be able to find souvenir keychains and mugs with your name on them. However, it can also be really frustrating when you grow up with three other Emilys in your class and you have to either pick a nickname or forever be referred to by your first name and last initial.

As you can tell, I was one of those kids. My mom really liked the name Emily, and at the time, it wasn't a very popular name. But apparently, that's what thousands of other parents thought in 1998, so I ended up with one of the most popular names of the late 90s and early 2000s.
