A massive new Costco location in Midland will be its largest store in the Lone Star State. And Costco officially broke ground on construction of the giant store earlier this week.

There are currently 38 Costco locations in Texas, but once you get west of I-35 those Costco locations become pretty scarce. The closest Costco to Midland right now is the Lubbock location which is about 117 miles north of Midland. The next closest locations would either be El Paso or Fort Worth and both of those are pretty long trips.

The Largest Costco Location In Texas Is Being Built In Midland

The new Costco in Midland will be big. According to Yahoo News, the new store will be 180,000 square foot making it the largest in Texas. And while Costco is known for it's huge selection of bulk items, the food court is something that always wins praise thanks to its pizza and $1.50 hot dog and drink deal.

The new Costco location in Midland is expected to bring in customers from all around the Permian Basin and West Texas.

Where Is Costco Being Built in Midland?

The new Costco location is at the intersection of State Highway 191 and State Highway 158. Officials broke ground on the location on Tuesday, December 10th. Costco in Midland is expected to open by mid-2025.

According to the report, Midland officials began talks with Costco in 2019-2020, but due to the pandemic, plans were put on hold. Now construction is underway for Midland's giant Costco.
