The Lady Raiders started rough against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, but their 16-9 deficit after the first quarter was quickly erased in the second quarter after a 22-3 effort as part of a larger 38-8 run for Texas Tech. The final was 69-49.

Texas Tech was led by a trio of newcomers, as Houston transfer Jazmaine Lewis, freshman Bailey Maupin, and UT Arlington transfer Katie Ferrell all shined. Lewis finished with 15 and 7, Maupin had 11, while Ferrell added five points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

Sophomore Rhyle McKinney scored 11 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting for a great debut in year 2 as a Lady Raider. With the win, head coach Krista Gerlich improves to 3-0 all-time in season openers. She also had some incredible red boots and an 806 hoody because it's all West Texas. As a program, the Lady Raiders won the home opener for the fifth consecutive season.

After turning the ball over 26 times in their exhibition contest, the Lady Raiders turned it over just 12 times. Conversely, the Islanders turned the basketball over 18 times, leading to 20 Lady Raider points.

The Lady Raiders are now heading into a preseason NIT with two rounds at home and then a true road game against the Ragin Cajuns. Then it's on to Las Vegas. Who doesn't love a long weekend in Las Vegas?

The Lady Raiders and the Big 12 women went undefeated on night one. Not as much can be said for the men who saw the Oklahoma Sooners lose their season opener.
