The Junior League of Lubbock will be hosting a luncheon later this month to hold a conversation about women's empowerment.

The luncheon will be on October 21st, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and will be hosted at the Lubbock Country Club. The conversation will be led by two women that worked for former First Lady Barbara Bush. Laurie Firestone, Bush’s former social secretary, and Kristan King Nevins, her previous chief of staff and personal aid.

The group was initially formed in 1935 and was later recognized as an official member of the Association of Junior Leagues in 1954, making them the 183rd member of the organization.

The group’s current president, Leslie Collins, as well as their board of directors and other leaders, work to provide volunteers for several other organizations, as well as for their own projects. Some of the projects they are working on include Soth Plains Food2kids, SPARK, and Kids in the Kitchen.

They also host events, like the luncheon on October 21st, to raise money in order to support the Junior League of Lubbock Foundation, Inc. and continue their efforts. The luncheon has various options for attendance based on if you plan to buy a table for a group, or if you are planning to just go by yourself.

You can visit JLLLuncheon.com/2021 for more information on the luncheon. You can also visit their website for more information on the group and other events they have in the works, like their Holiday Happening.
