The Texas Tech women's tennis team will advance to the semifinals, and reach a new milestone not seen since the 1980s.

The No. 21-ranked Lady Raiders tipped No. 49 Missouri Friday, and will advance to the semifinals of the 2012 Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championships.

Texas Tech, who is now the No. 1 seed, will face either No. 13 Texas or No. 37 Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell Tennis Center at Texas A&M.

The Lady Raiders also recorded their 19th win of the season, marking the first time since 1987 that the women’s team won 19 matches in a single season.

“Credit Missouri, we didn’t play our best tennis, but that was a lot because of Missouri, not because of us,” said Todd Petty, the Lady Raiders’ head coach. “I was proud to get through that and am looking forward to tomorrow.”
