Texas Tech’s track and field team has made their third top-five appearance this season.

The Red Raiders will officially enter the NCAA West Preliminaries ranked fifth, according to the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association computer polls, which were released on Tuesday.

The top-5 ranking is Tech’s third this season and their second in a row, after winning the Big 12 Conference Championships at the Fuller Track and Field Complex in Lubbock.

Tech is the highest-ranked Big 12 men’s team entering the preliminary meet, which serves as the first round of the NCAA Championships.

The Lady Raiders dropped one spot this week to No. 16, marking their sixth appearance in the top-20 this season. They finished third at the Big 12 Championships, which is their best showing at the conference meet since finishing as runner-up in 2009.

The NCAA West Preliminaries will begin on Thursday, May 29th at the John McDonnell Track in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
