Texas Tech has named a former Board of Regents member as a vice chancellor and general counsel.

John Huffaker was named as vice chancellor and general counsel for Texas Tech, after serving on the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents from February 2009 through January 2012.

He replaces Pat Campbell, who will stay on through a transition period through March 31st. Campbell has been with Texas Tech for 30 years.

Huffaker was an attorney and shareholder in the Amarillo law firm of Sprouse Shrader Smith, P.C. prior to his hiring at Texas Tech. He graduated from the Texas Tech School of Law in 1974.

He will provide legal counsel to the Texas Tech University System, coordinate institutional compliance, and oversee legal teams at each university.

Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance commented on Huffaker’s hiring, saying “We were fortunate to have him serve as a regent and are excited to have such a distinguished and experienced leader join our organization.”

“Texas Tech has always meant a great deal to me, and I look forward to contributing in this new role,” said Huffaker.
