Texas’ Most Popular Houseplant Is Surprisingly Low Maintenance
Having a green thumb is always something people want. Being able to keep any plant in your home not only alive but thriving? Who wouldn't want that? The issue is that, for some like myself, our thumb is more brown than green and we somehow manage to kill a cactus.
👇Keep scrolling👇 to see the list of most common household plants in Texas.
Whatever the reason, houseplants can be a huge helper for your indoor air quality by filtering out the bad stuff and giving us some fresh oxygen in return. Or, if you are more accident prone, plants like aloe vera may be more your style with leaves capable of relieving pain from cuts and burns.
Popular Plant Honorable Mentions
Before I reveal Texas' answer, I wanted to include some honorable mentions. For instance, Florida and South Dakota were the only two states to each have a unique plant not claimed by any other state.
For Florida, the most popular houseplant was the prayer plant.
South Dakota had the Devil's Ivy which, spoiler alert, is NOT the same as poison ivy. In fact, the Devil's Ivy is not poisonous at all. Their biggest risk is the tiny crystals that are found on the leaves. If you decide to be curious one day and chew on the leaves of a Devil's Ivy, you may feel tiny pins and needles from these sharp crystals poking your tongue.
Texas' Most Popular Houseplant
Behold! The most popular plant in Texas houses is none other than the calathea plant.
Funny enough, the calathea plant is shared by three states, not just Texas. It turns out that Arizona and Colorado have similar tastes when it comes to natural home decor.
For anyone curious, the calathea plant is super easy to maintain. You just need to remember to keep it out of direct sunlight and only water every eight or so days.
