A man in Midland has been sentenced for firing live rounds at his neighbor's house which ultimately left one dead. He did not have a criminal record and it was discovered that he was high during the attack.

He Shot At His Neighbor's House for No Reason

35-year-old Samuel Oritsedere Omamogho was reportedly acting erratically on May 21, 2024 at his residence on the 6700 block of Rio Bravo. At one point, Omamogho grabbed his pistol, stepped outside, and began firing live rounds at his neighbor's house and front door.

Responding to the gunfire, the neighbor, later identified as 41-year-old John Richard, grabbed his own rifle before stepping outside to see what was causing the commotion. Richard encountered Omamogho and the two engaged in conflict. During this time, Omamogho shot and killed him.

He Was High When It All Began

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Omamogho in the middle of the road, kneeling and holding a firearm while Richard lay deceased nearby.

Omamogho was found to have been using THC at the time of the murder, and he had a completely clean criminal record prior to the attack.

Facing between five and 99 years in prison for murder, Omamogho entered a plea agreement allowing him to only serve 35 years with parole eligibility after serving half of his sentence.
