Texas Comptroller Susan Combs’ office is reminding taxpayers of the upcoming deadline to protest their property value appraisals.

You can protest a number of items, including:

  • Excessive value: if you believe the CAD’s value on your property is too high.
  • Unequal appraisal: if you believe the CAD appraised your property at a higher proportion of its value than a representative sample of comparable properties.
  • Failure to grant exemptions: if the chief appraiser denied your exemption application.
  • Failure to provide notice: if the CAD failed to provide a notice that is required by law.

In Lubbock, the deadline to submit a protest for property valuation is May 31st, 2013. The appraisal review board hearings began on May 6th.

An online protest can also be filed for properties in Lubbock County at www.lubbockcad.org.
