Texas Civil War Museum To Close Its Doors, Artifacts To Be Sold Off
It's not every day that museum announces they are closing their doors, but that's exactly what is happening with the Civil War Museum in Texas located just outside of Fort Worth in White Settlement.
The museum opened in 2006 and was curated by Ray and Judy Richey. The two had been long time collectors of Civil War items from clothing to military items. According to USA Today, the museum will close its doors for good on October 31. The first announcement about the closure was made by the museum sales director in a Facebook video at the end of August.
What Will Happen To The Artifacts From The Texas Civil War Museum?
USA Today reports that the Texas Civil War Museum has both Union and Confederate artifacts. All of those items will be sent a Gettysburg-based antique company. The company, The Horse Soldier posted on Facebook that the items would not be auctioned off, but instead sold in store and online. In the Facebook post, The Horse Soldier also said that the postings of the items would happen later in the year "at the earliest".
The museum did note that any items that belonged to the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be returned to the organization.
Civil War items are big among collectors and I anticipate many people will be waiting for this collection to go on sale.
