Texas Cat Reunites with Owner After 5 Years Thanks to Microchip
Imagine losing your pet for more than a week. Devastating, right? Now, imagine it was five years since you last saw your fluffy little bundle of joy? Do you laugh? Do you cry? You probably do that ugly combination of the two. Well, this family in Texas is over the moon after their pet cat was returned after half a decade.
Feline Good After Five Years Away
The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter in Georgetown, Texas, recently announced that a stray cat, believed to have once been a pet, was brought in by some kind passers-by.
Luckily, the cat was microchipped, and employees at the shelter discovered the owners' contact info after scanning.
What happened next was straight out of a sappy movie. A married couple was called and informed that their lost cat was at the shelter and ready for pickup. This entire process was pretty standard, until shelter employees found out that the cat was missing for five years!
The owners immediately went to the shelter and couldn't believe their eyes when their long lost cat, KitKat, was right in front of them after all this time. Still in good spirits, KitKat was ecstatic to finally see her mom and dad again.
Microchipping is The Way to Go!
This story alone should be evidence enough to microchip your pet. You never know when they'll decide to explore the neighborhood without you knowing, returning only when they're good and ready, if at all.
The Animal Hospital of Lubbock assures all pet owners that microchipping is reliable, safe, and inexpensive.
How it works is that a small microchip, no larger than a grain of rice, is injected just under the skin between the shoulder blades. The chip acts as a bar code that, when scanned at a shelter, will display the contact information of the pet's owner.
If you ever lose a pet and want to check if they've been found at a nearby shelter, you can access the Universal Pet Microchip Lookup.
