Halloween is finally here and so are the warnings to kids and parents alike about precautions that steps both can take to make sure everyone is safe this Halloween.

It seems like every year there is a scare around Halloween and candy. When I was a kid it was candied apples or snack sized candy bars that could have possibly had a razor blade inside.

I still think parents joined together to make that one up so they could take the "good candy" away from us to inspect it.

One of the big worries by authorities this Halloween is the same that they worried about last year. THC edibles from New Mexico and Colorado getting mixed in with real candy. There are reports that edibles and even deadly "rainbow colored" fentanyl that could be packaged with real candy.

According to KTSM, El Paso Police report that drugs being packaged into candy has been reported in other states.

EPPD said in a press release they have not received reports of a threat in our area, but “have received reports from credible sources that indicate in other states, drugs are being packaged
for distribution in resealed bags of legitimate well-known brands of candy.”

They also warn of legal sales of THC products in New Mexico that also include edibles in form of candies and other snacks with packaging that might be appealing to children.

EPPD suggests trick or treating at familiar, trusted and reputable places and advise parents or adults to inspect candy if they have any doubts.

Hopefully, we won't see any of that in the Lubbock area or anywhere else in Texas. Still, parents do have a reason and a responsibility to check the candy. Parents, if you do find candy that has been tampered with, call the local authorities.
