Texas Tech Softball Advances to World Series Semifinals Against Alabama
After a tough loss to Tennessee on Saturday, Red Raider softball redeemed themselves after a much-needed win against UCLA on Sunday in the World Series with a close score of 8-7.
Texas Tech Avoids Elimination
On Saturday, Texas Tech faced off against Tennessee in game two of the 2026 Women's College World Series. Tennessee had just come off of a 6-3 win over UT while the Red Raiders had demolished Mississippi State, 8-0, just two days prior.
Impeccable defense from both teams kept the scores 1-1 heading into the seventh inning, forcing the game into overtime. However, a walk-off home run in the top of the ninth by Tennessee sent the Red Raiders packing to the elimination bracket.
Two losses means total elimination from the World Series, but after a clutch 8-7 victory over UCLA on Sunday, Texas Tech was figuratively and literally back in the game!
You can watch the full TTU vs. UCLA game highlights here from the ESPN YouTube page:
UCLA tied the game in the bottom of the seventh at 6-6, pushing the game into overtime. Thanks to a fielding error, Red Raider Kaitlyn Terry would push the lead to 8-6 in favor of Texas Tech. One run was all UCLA could muster in the ninth inning, ending the game with a score of 8-7.
What's Next?
Texas Tech will now face the undefeated Alabama in the World Series semifinals. Alabama first defeated UCLA on May 28 with a score of 6-3, then Nebraska over the weekend, 5-1.
TTU vs. Alabama will kick off on Monday evening and can be viewed on ESPN. If Tech wins, there will be a second game immediately afterwards.
The winner will then advance to game 1 of the championship round against UT who defeated Tennessee, 4-0, on Monday afternoon.
Let's go Texas Tech! Keep those guns up!
