"It's taken its toll on people emotionally and socially. And of course, the business community, all we're trying to do is get back open and generate business," McBride said.
In a statement Monday, Gov. Abbott announced that passing the STAAR test would not be a requirement to move on to the next grade for 5th and 8th graders.
"People are starting to get back in the habit of going out, and I think that's good. It's not a lightswitch kind of thing. I don't think we thought it would be, and I think we know it was not. You know, it's more of a gradual rebuild," Pope said.

"I think we have to communicate with the public to help build consumer confidence. I don't know that if we opened all up tomorrow that there's a rush to the gates to get to be in these businesses. I think people are going to be concerned about are businesses doing what they can to keep the public safe when they're in those businesses. So there's a lot of work to be done as we move into what we will call the new normal," Steve said.
