Dr. Schovanec had this to say, "This is not about us vs. another school. This is about what's best for an important industry in West Texas, and the state, and also about making sure that students in Texas who want to pursue a career in veterinary medicine have a better chance of doing that without going out of state and incurring greater debt."

"As we go into this session, even though there is so much focus on the new initiatives like the vet school, the dental school, the institute for mental health, our basic and fundamental priority is always the formula. That's what funds most of what we do at Tech, or a good part of what we do," Dr. Schovanec said.

Schovanec explained that Tech currently does not make any money from the Lime scooters, but that once they start having the shared bikes on campus, that Tech will receive 20% of those profits.

Schovanec explained that email is a very poor way to get an emergency notice out, and encourages the community to provide their information so that Tech can send a text rather than slow email.

"I think that since chancellor Duncan's retirement, you'll find that there has been a kind of a galvanization of support for the vet school...this is a matter of what's best for West Texas," Schovanec said.

"As of last week, Friday when I got that report, our retention rate for that class was 3% higher than it was a year ago. A percent increase in retention is very significant," Dr. Schovanec explained.
