A group of volunteers with a notable organization gathered together this week to honor some outstanding members.

The 2012 annual membership meeting of the American Red Cross South Plains Regional Chapter was held on Thursday night at the American State Bank conference Center.

Around 60 volunteers, donors, and staff attended the event to recognize award winners and honor board members.

Chapter Volunteer Specialist Molly Mabery has been named as this year’s Chapter Employee of the Year. Devin Cox has been recognized as the chapter’s Volunteer of the Year, last winning that award in 2010.

The Clara Barton Award for Meritorious Service was presented to Bill Curnow. This award is given to a “volunteer who has exemplified exceptional leadership qualities in more than one role, has enhanced services and systems, and is focused on solutions to problems,” according to a press release.

Curnow was re-elected as chairman, and Gerry Grant was reelected as vice-chairman for a third term. Brant Daniel was selected as the board’s secretary.

The South Plains Regional Chapter serves more than 410,000 people living in 15 counties. Volunteers responded to 114 disasters last year, and helped more than 363 individuals. The chapter also provided support to more than 351 members of the armed forces and their families.
