In the wake of today's dust storm and thunderstorm, the Lubbock Chapter of the American Red Cross is conducting relief efforts.

The Red Cross earlier tonight has worked with South Plains Electric Cooperative and Lubbock County Emergency Management to identify roughly 3,000 homes without power in South Lubbock County as a result of this afternoon’s thunderstorms.

In response the Red Cross will be opening a warming center at Bacon Heights Baptist Church (53rd & Slide Road) in Lubbock for those who need a place to stay warm while they wait for power to be restored.  The warming center will open at 9pm tonight (Friday).

The American Red Cross advises those going to the center to bring any personal items they may need such as blankets, pillows, books, medications, etc.  Animals will not be permitted in the center.
