As Lubbock marks the 50th anniversary of the May 11, 1970 Tornado, one debate continues. Should Lubbock have tornado sirens? Some say they are a waste of money while others say that tornado sirens could save lives. As someone who grew up hearing sirens go off, they make sense to me. But the big question for Lubbock going into the next budget cycle is this, can we actually afford them right now?
