These are the reasons for Lubbock's sirens going off at seemingly random times throughout the month.

The small town of Matador, just 80 miles Northeast of Lubbock, was struck by a tornado on the night of June 21st.

Don't freak out on Friday, October 14th at about 9 a.m. if you hear warning sirens going off around the city of Lubbock.

Lubbock is testing it's tornado sirens again on Friday

According to a press release by the City of Lubbock, tests of their Outdoor Warning System will take place every month.

"Public safety is about letting every citizen know. (The cellphone) isn't a foolproof device...but the advantage that were going after is that its another tool in the toolbox. It's another way to protect the citizens," Jeff said.

"I think what we approved and what will come back before us maintains a good balance of respecting the history of our downtown, but at the same time being able to provide streets that are drivable and that are going to be cost effective to maintain in the future," Massengale said.
