It's everyone's favorite time of year to give gifts and spend time around the Christmas tree with loved ones. If you're anything like me, then you're already looking high and low for the perfect Christmas gifts for all of your friends, family and co-workers.

You don't have to spend a ton of money to show someone that you care, and you can even save a few dollars by buying local instead of paying those pricey shipping costs from businesses outside of Lubbock.

Not only is buying local a great way to show how much you love your city, but there are many businesses here in town that are still recovering from the financial loss brought on by the pandemic.

There are a plethora of small, niche stores where you can find something really special and unique for a friend that you think is just as special and unique. When you order online from huge companies, just know that a million other people bought someone that exact same lamp. It's not special, and that company doesn't really need your money. Small businesses across West Texas certainly do though, and giving a one-of-a-kind gift to your wife or boss would be pretty cool of you.

You never know... she might rub your feet, and he might give you a raise. It's win-win.

You can check out our local Farmers Market, as well as all of the little shops up and down 34th Street that have been around forever and ever for a gift you may not be able to find anywhere else. You could also always buy a gift card for someone to try out one of your favorite local restaurants. Gift cards are a great way to support a business because the business had the cash in their hand the moment you buy them. Even if someone tosses them in a drawer and never uses them, you've still helped that local shop with your purchase.

Even when you aren't shopping for gifts, shopping local is a wonderful way to boost our economy and keep money out of greedy corporate pockets that don't care much about the little people. Let's keep these mom-and-pop shops in business by giving thoughtful and locally purchased gifts this year.

Share with us in the comments where you like to buy gifts from locally the most, and stay tuned for a big list of great places to shop this year.

Happy Holidays!

Every Time Jeopardy! Asked a Question About Amarillo

Amarillo might not be a bustling urban metropolis, but it most certainly is full of quirky characters, unexpected treasures, and historical gems that fly under the radar. It should really be no surprise that our fair Yellow City has popped up more than a few times on Jeopardy!

What's that? How many times is "more than a few times"? Well, take al look and see for yourself.
