Sheryl Swoopes Named Basketball Hall of Fame Nominee
Former Texas Tech basketball star Sheryl Swoopes has been named a nominee for the 2016 class of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Swoopes was named the national player of the year for the Lady Raiders’ 1993 national championship season, during which she averaged 28.1 points per game. Of the dozens of records Swoopes set during her college career, her record of most points scored in a single game, 53, remains untouched at Texas Tech.
After leaving Tech, Swoopes joined the WNBA and played for the Houston Comets and Seattle Storm, where earned three MVP titles.
The final inaugural class of the 2016 Basketball Hall of Fame will be announced Monday, April 4th at the Men’s NCAA Final Four in Houston.
