Scot Mayfield joined The Chad Hasty Show on KFYO today to announce his campaign for re-election to the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees. Mayfield has served District 5 since 2016.

Mayfield told KFYO that he wanted to continue to see progress being made in Lubbock ISD and discussed the growth of Lubbock ISD in Northwest and Northeast Lubbock. Mayfield touted his record of fiscal responsibility and a promise not to raise taxes.

Mayfield also commented on the future of security within Lubbock ISD. Mayfield said that a clear bag policy instituted at Smylie Wilson Middle School could be looked at in the future for expansion, but Mayfield wasn't ready to endorse such an idea. Mayfield did say that he was leaning towards allowing for a program to be instituted at Lubbock ISD that would allow teachers to carry firearms. Mayfield said more time is needed to gather input and learn the facts about which program, if any, would be voted on.

Mayfield officially kicked-off his campaign later in the day at Coronado High School.

Election Day for the 2020 Cities and Schools Election is Saturday, May 2.
