On Thursday, May 13th, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trusted unanimously voted to make face coverings not mandatory for the upcoming summer and fall semesters.
Masks also will not be required while attending Spring 2021 graduation ceremonies. KAMC News reports that this policy, however, is still subject to rules that particular venues enforce, so masks may still be required depending on the location.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention even said on the same day as this vote that indoor mask-wearing for those fully vaccinated will not be necessary. However, you still must wear a mask while in a crowded indoor setting such as a bus, hospital or prison.
On top of voting for masks to be not mandatory, the School Board also approved 2 principal positions and 2 other appointments during their meeting.
Vincent Garcia was appointed as the principal of Irons Middle School. Garcia is currently the principal of Monterey High School, and has previously served as assistant principal at Monterey and OL Slaton Middle School. He replaces Philip Riewe, who has now been appointed as assistant principal at Coronado High School.
Kelli Archer, currently assistant principal of Miller Elementary School, was also named principal of Miller Elementary. Archer replaces Kevin Booe, who as been appointed principal at Overton Elementary School.
The other 2 appointments made were Erin Gregg, who was appointed executive director of communications and community relations and Kenneth Casarez, who is returning to become chief innovation officer.
