On Thursday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Melissa Collier, candidate for LISD School Board At Large, talked with Chad and Rex about her run for the school board.

Collier said that she believes one of the biggest problems facing LISD is teacher moral. She said teachers are put under great pressure from the STAR testing standards, and that anxiety is running high in the school district.

"From my perspective, I think being a teacher has got to be one of the most difficult professions to be in, especially in today's day and time. With the standards increasing at such a dramatic rate, and so much is expected when you are a teacher."

Collier also commended the teachers of LISD for rising to the occasion and working hard to meet the needs of the students.

Collier also spoke about the dress code, saying that relaxing the dress code wasn't necessarily a mistake, but there were still consequences to that decision. Collier also spoke about the school district's budget, STAR testing, and her thoughts on Superintendent Karen Garza.
