Fresh-crop apples are in season and Robin Hawkins, Director of Health and Wellness for the United Family of Stores joined Tom Collins and Laura Mac to talk about apples currently for sale in the stores.

Honeycrisp apples are fresh from harvest, and are now on sale at United for the great price of $1.77 / lb, (regularly $3.99).

Other apples currently in stores are the Organic Gala which is on sale for $1.79, Sweeties, and Pink Lady. Most of the apples for sale are freshly harvested right out of the state of Washington.

Hawkins reminds listeners that if apples are not going to be eaten right away, they should be stored in the refrigerator, which stops the ripening process and keeps them crisp. If stored on the counter top apples will ripen 7-10 times faster.
