Rep. Dustin Burrows Reacts To Larson’s Call For An Independent Party [INTERVIEW]
Monday on The Chad Hasty Show, Texas District 83 Representative Dustin Burrows joined the program to discuss several issues, including the recent call from District 122 Representative Lyle Larson in the Galveston County Daily News, for Americans to do away with the standard two-party system.
About Larson's opinion piece, Burrows said,
It left a lot of us scratching our heads. I mean it seems as though he's advocating for a system more like France's, because I guess he's jealous of the French democracy by comparison, and the establishment of a new different party other than a Republican Party. An independent party that doesn't champion conservative thought. That I guess doesn't champion Second Amendment, taking care of the unborn life, and other conservative issues.
Also in the discussion was the Republican Party platform, the possibility of a special session in the near future, taxpayer-funded lobbying, property tax issues, the reopening of Texas businesses, and mask mandates.
When questioned about his thoughts about the mask requirements, Burrows said,
I'm not really comfortable with a lot of the powers that I've seen exercised, and I don't care if we're talking from the top, all the way down to the level of mayors. I believe that people can make good choices on their own. I think that we can talk to them intelligently...It makes me uncomfortable that we have allowed government to have a lot of power sometimes.
