OK, nobody likes the red light cameras. They end up costing the city more money than they bring in. People want them gone. But now, the red light cameras may be catching more than just speeders.

Police in Red Bank, Tennessee, used red light cameras to identify suspects in a violent home invasion. The camera, which was set up near the victims' house, caught 4 men breaking in and robbing the house. Police were then able to use the footage taken from the camera to track down the criminals.

I can see the potential for these cameras to be used as crime-fighting tools, and to be honest, it's a little scary. I mean, it's fortunate that these burglars were caught, but think about it: what if folks decide to "re-purpose" all the cameras to monitor crime activity? If you think these cameras invade your privacy now, imagine what would happen if this catches on.  I still say the red light cameras are a bad idea, and the faults with them far outweigh the benefits.
