A pilot crashed his plane into Eagle Mountain Lake on Monday afternoon, causing the aircraft to slowly sink beneath the waves. The pilot did not survive the incident.

Medic crews were not able to retrieve the pilot's body immediately after reaching the impact site due to the excessive damage to the floating wreck, according to WFAA.

Documentation revealed that the aircraft was a 59-year-old Champion 7EC single-engine plane. The only way that first responders were able to locate the wreckage was due to the tail of the plane and portion of the wing sticking out of the water.

Although the model of plane can typically seat two individuals, the pilot was the only one on board.

Here is what the style of plane looks like:

A bystander at a nearby resort who witnessed the crash was the one who ultimately called 9-1-1. When the emergency call was received, Eagle Mountain Fire Department sent their own dive and medic teams to the scene. Local EMS was also quick to respond.

Tarrant County Sherriff's Office sent an update on the situation via an X post:

This is an ongoing investigation as the point of takeoff and the destination of the plane are unknown. It's also unclear the identification of the pilot, his license or his mental state at the time of the crash.
