One person was injured early Sunday morning in a two vehicle accident in Hockley County.

According to the DPS, the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 385 approximately 9 miles south of Levelland around 1:40 a.m.

Authorities said the driver of a Nissan Armada SUV fell asleep at the wheel and drifted in front of a semi truck in the northbound lanes.

The semi truck driver attempted to steer away from the vehicle but struck the left side of the SUV causing it to spin and come to rest in the center of the highway.

The driver of the SUV was identified as Sundown woman, Kristen Strickland (32).

Strickland was transported by Levelland EMS to UMC with several broken brones according to KAMC News.

Clean-up crews cleaned diesel fuel that spilled from the semi truck on the roadway until 7 a.m.

The driver of the semi was unharmed in the accident.
