The first Wednesday in November, which is today, is designated as National Stress Awareness Day. It is supposed to be meant as a day where people can identify and deal with the daily stress that they are suffering from.
And in 2020, many people are dealing stress and have been all year. Add in a Presidential Election that, as of this writing, is still undecided and it probably means stress levels are through the roof for some.
Yesterday the Miami Herald reported that more than half of Americans said that Election Day was going to be the most stressful day of the lives.
In a survey of 2,000 Americans, more than half (55%) said Tuesday’s presidential election will be the most stressful day of their lives so far.
The survey, conducted by OnePoll, also found that 67% just want 2020 to end already.
It’s what therapist and author Dr. Steven Stosny calls “election stress disorder,” in which the “emotional toddler brain” can take over the “rational adult brain,” he wrote in Psychology Today in 2016.
That sounds pretty bad to me, but not shocking. 2020 has been a stressful year with the pandemic and politics, and everything else that has been happening.
The good news is there are plenty of ways of relaxing. According to IBTimes, playing with pets, reading, cooking, and even exercising can help you bring stress levels down.
Personally, I like to turn off the cable news and just relax in the afternoons for a bit in order to bring my stress levels down. If you get stressed about the election or politics in general, trust me, not watching cable news 24/7 will help with stress.
Hopefully the day wasn't too stressful for you. But if it was, browse the gallery below to take your mind off of politics.
