O.J. Simpson Released from Prison in Nevada
In the Nevada desert, minutes into the morning of October 1st, O.J. Simpson was released on parole from the Lovelock Correctional Center by the Nevada Department of Corrections.
The Nevada Department of Corrections posted a photo and short video on Facebook officially showing Simpson's release into the free world.
A brief statement accompanied the posting on social media: "The Nevada Department of Corrections, in an effort to ensure public safety and reduce the potential for incident, released Orenthal James Simpson #1027820, on October 1, 2017, at 12:08 AM from Lovelock Correctional Center."
The 70-year-old Simpson had been incarcerated for the past nine years after being convicted on charges related to an armed robbery in Las Vegas.
In 1995, Simpson was found not guilty of double-murder after being put on trial in connection with the death of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
As far as what Simpson will do next, ABC News reports he could be headed to the East Coast. Simpson's attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, told ABC News in a September 29th interview that after his release, Simpson wants to go to Florida.
Just over an hour after Simpson's release, CNN, then MSNBC and then FOX News all broke into their overnight programming to report the news.
Lovelock Correctional Center is located 451 miles northwest of Las Vegas, 102 miles northeast of Reno via I-80 and 420 miles west of Salt Lake City via I-80.
