The City of Lubbock Health Department has 100 doses of the Flu Mist influenza vaccine available. They will begin administering the vaccine Friday September 2nd. To receive the vaccine children must be between 2 and 18 years of age, and in good health with no egg allergies. It costs $10 per child, and Medicaid is accepted. The vaccines will be available Friday morning at the health department at 1902 Texas Avenue.

The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department opens registration for fall volleyball and basketball Friday September 2nd. To register you must be 16 years old or older. It costs $190 to register a team for volleyball and $345 to register a basketball team. Registration will be open from September 2nd through the 9th at the Parks and Recreation Office at 1010 9th street during regular business hours.

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is encouraging local businesses to allow their employees wear Red and Black on Fridays during the Texas Tech Football season.  Texas Tech starts their 2011 season on Saturday against Texas State at Jones AT&T Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 6 o’clock and tickets are still available as of Thursday.

City of Lubbock offices will be closed for the Labor Day Holiday this coming Monday. Trash pickup for the 5th will be delayed until September 6th. Trash pickup for the 6th will take place on the 7th. Emergency services will continue as normal.

The City of Lubbock will hold a public hearing to hear public comments concerning proposed rate increases for Citibus.  The hearing will be held on Wednesday September 7 at 12 Noon at the Downtown Transfer Plaza at 801 Broadway.  The Lubbock City Council is considering raising fares for Citibus by 25 cents.
