New TikTok Account Shares the Fake Lives of Texas Tech Students
A new TikTok account has been posting an interesting series that they refer to as the ‘fake people of TTU.’
The posts consist of short videos taken of students around the Texas Tech campus. Each video has a caption with the person's name, age, and a blurb about what they're experiencing in their life at that moment. However, all of the information is simply made up by the TikTok user making the videos.
I came across this profile a few days ago, and the videos have gained a lot of traction in a very short time. The first video was posted last week and now has over 186,000 views. At the time I’m writing this, the account only has eight videos with 82,500 total likes. It is crazy how much traction this account picked up in just a few days.
I find these videos particularly funny because I used to do a similar thing when I was at Texas Tech. If I was hanging out on campus in between classes, I would always make up little stories in my head about the people I observed around campus. Some stories would be based on something I heard them say in passing, or just the vibe I got from the person. It's fun to see that others do the same thing to pass the time and be creative.
The user stated on their profile that they are open to taking requests from anyone that wants a fake story made about them. They're also completely understanding if anyone in their videos wants the post they are in taken down for any reason.
Here are a couple of my favorite videos that they have posted so far:
