Over $8M in Hard Narcotics Seized at Texas Port of Entry in One Bust
There has recently been back-to-back seizures along the Texas border that resulted in millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs. The most recent of which exceeded $8M.
Laredo Border Patrol Seizure
Last Friday, officers with the Office of Field Operations under the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized $8,100,000 worth of methamphetamine.
The bust took place at the World Trade Bridge when a 2003 Volvo hauling a large shipment of industrial machinery was escorted to secondary inspection. After a K-9 unit conducted additional testing, along with a non-intrusive inspection system, CBP officers discovered almost 900 lbs. of alleged meth.
In total, the massive discovery had a combined street value of $8,181,799. The shipment was seized and the Department of Homeland Security began their investigation.
Laredo Port of Entry Port Director Alberto Flores stated that this success prevented these dangerous narcotics from reaching local communities. "This underscores our unwavering commitment to public safety and securing our borders against the threats of illegal drug trafficking."
Additional Texas Border Drug Seizures
This recent apprehension followed a separate incident where CBP officers in Brownsville seized over $1.4M in cocaine.
This particular seizure was a result from two different efforts. One was when a 22-year-old U.S. citizen attempted re-entry into the country in her 2008 Toyota. Further inspection revealed 40 individual packages of narcotics, totaling over 91 lbs. of cocaine.
The second seizure that took place that day occurred at the Gateway International Bridge as a 27-year-old Mexican citizen attempted to gain access into the country with over 15 lbs. of cocaine in his vehicle.
The drugs were seized and this particular selection had a street value of just over $211,000.
