On Friday, Nancy Neal from Lubbock Parks and Recreation spoke with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about upcoming end of season events taking place at Lubbock parks. On August 17th the city is hosting the Canine Splash at Clapp Park pool, which even includes a diving competition. Dogs get in free, admission for children is $2.00, and adults are $2.50. Dogs must have proof of current rabies vaccination.

August 23rd from 9am until noon, 1000 backpacks donated by the Voices Coalition will be given out at Mae Simmons Park for children grades K-12. Children do need to be present to get a backpack.

Movie in the Park is being held in Maxi Park, right behind the community center, on Friday the 22nd of August. The featured movie is "Peter Pan" and is sponsored by Lubbock Kids Dental. Families are encouraged to bring picnic supplies, blankets, lawn chairs, etc. The movie begins around 8:45, and an early arrival is recommended as the crowd grows quickly!
