A memorial fundraising event has been organized for the family of former Lynn County Sheriff Abraham Vega, who recently lost a battle with COVID-19.

The memorial ride event, featuring vehicles of all types, will be held August 23, 2020, at Cook’s Garage, located off U.S. 87 near 114th Street.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and riders will then drive down U.S. 87 to Tahoka, to the Lynn County Sheriff's Office, and then back to Lubbock.

After the ride, there will be a raffle, car show and potentially some live music. The cost per vehicle is $20 and all proceeds will go to Sheriff Vega’s family.

Abraham Vega contracted COVID-19 in early July and was transferred to a Dallas hospital where he succumbed to the virus on July 11th.

On Tuesday, July 28, Wanda Mason was selected as the first-ever female sheriff for Lynn County and is Vega's replacement. She will serve as interim sheriff until at least December 31st, 2020.
