On Thursday, July 23rd, Lynn County Judge Mike Braddock confirmed that a "Line of Duty Death" designation had been denied for Sheriff Abraham Vega, who died due to COVID-19 back on July 11th.

KAMC News reports the determination came from the Texas Association of Counties, not Lynn County.

Braddock says that it cannot be guaranteed that Vega had contracted COVID-19 while he was on the job.

Charley Wilkison, Executive Director for Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, said that he has apologized to Vega's widow Rachel on behalf of all Texans after the denial of Vega's LODD.

Wilkison has encouraged Rachel to request an appeal.
