It seems that McDonald's famous "Happy Meals" aren't making everybody so happy. The fast-food chain has long been under fire by various health and child advocacy organization for promoting childhood obesity.

But yesterday, McDonald's announced it would be making changes to their Happy Meals. The changes include reducing the amount of fries served in the meals, and including a fruit or vegetable side item, such as apples. McDonald's had also promised to reduce the amount of sodium its food.

The changes will take effect in September in select markets, and then will be implemented in all McDonald's locations next April.

I'll give McDonald's credit for reducing their portion sizes and for reducing sodium. Including vegetables, however, is gonna be hit or miss. No matter if it's at home or a fast food restaurant, kids are gonna be picky about fruits and vegetables. I wonder how many kids will ignore the healthier side item, or try to hide it in their napkin, or give it to the dog, or whatever it is kids do with food they don't like. The point is, kids probably still aren't gonna eat their veggies, even if they come with fries and a toy.
